Despite Spain's dominance in the final match against Argentina, the European team had to wait until the 106th minute of extra time when Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the match to give Spain the victory over Argentina, who finished the game with ten players, at the New York New Jersey stadium.

De la Fuente said in a media interview after winning the title: "I feel a special pride for this generation of players, who have grown and developed with this idea... They have provided us with an example of unity and family; they are players with exceptional talent. For me, it has been an honor to accompany them on this journey."

The coach, who also led Spain to win the UEFA Euro 2024 title, continued: "I feel a great emotion as I look at what we have achieved. We have won everything, which is wonderful, and this is a generation of players that represents a source of pride for Spain. Together, we are stronger."

The 65-year-old coach said, "I believed that Spain should have settled the match before Torres's goal that ended the thrilling final, but at the same time, he praised the inspiring performance of Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez."

The Argentine team finished the match with ten players after Enzo Fernández was sent off for receiving a second yellow card in the 93rd minute, before heading into extra time.

De la Fuente said: "I think the match should have been decided earlier. Debo's amazing saves prevented us from winning sooner, but it's a World Cup final, and even when the opponent plays with ten players in the end, you have to suffer."
