Durán Nears Benfica Move
The management of Portuguese club Benfica is close to finalizing a loan deal for Colombian Jhon Durán, player of Al-Nassr first football team, during the current summer transfer window, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola on Friday. The Portuguese newspaper stated that the loan contract extends until the end of next season, with the Portuguese club bearing a small portion of the Colombian striker's salary of 20 million euros per year. A Bola indicated that Durán's departure to Portugal is scheduled to take place in the next few days, to join the team's camp under the leadership of Marco Silva, the newly appointed coach. Reports revealed that Benfica wanted to sign Durán in 2023, when he was playing for Chicago Fire in the United States, but German Roger Schmidt rejected the idea of signing the Colombian striker, preferring other options. Special sources told Al Riyadiyah on Thursday evening that a meeting took place between Portuguese José Semedo, CEO of Al-Nassr, and the Colombian striker in the presence of his agent, during which he was informed of approval for his travel and given a one-week deadline to negotiate with some European clubs, on condition that he would join the yellow team's camp in Portugal if his fate was not decided within the deadline. In principle, both parties, the club management and the striker, agreed that the latter would leave Al-Nassr during the current summer transfer window. The Saudi club loaned Durán to Turkish Fenerbahçe and Russian Zenit during the past season, after signing him from English Aston Villa at the beginning of 2025. Under the Al-Nassr badge, Durán played 18 matches and scored 12 goals. His contract extends until summer 2030. The Colombian was recently close to joining Turkish Galatasaray, but negotiations were not successful, after which he headed to Riyadh, where he underwent a single training session with the team on Wednesday evening, under the supervision of the new technical staff led by Ange Postecoglou, the new first team coach.
