Gavi, Spain midfielder, does not want Argentine Leandro Paredes to be suspended due to a brawl between them that broke out after the World Cup final.

Paredes, aided by his teammate Nahuel Molina and Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala, fought with Gavi seconds after the end of the match which ended with Spain winning 1-0 at MetLife Stadium.

FIFA announced that Paredes was not sent off on the pitch, but it decided on Monday to open an investigation into a possible breach of FIFA's disciplinary regulations during this brawl.

For his part, Gavi said on the radio program El Partidazo de Cope: 'I do not support suspending Paredes. I know that what he did does not set a good example for children, but violence and force are part of football.'

The Barcelona player added: 'Paredes deserved to be sent off during the match, but in the end this is football, and what happened should not be taken out of context.'

Paredes grabbed Spanish player Eric Garcia by the neck and then knocked Gavi to the ground.

It was also rumored that the incident broke out after Molina assaulted Spain captain Rodri, while Ayala punched Spanish player Dani Olmo in the face.

Before these events, Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez was sent off in stoppage time of the second half for a second yellow card after a violent challenge on young Spanish defender Pau Cubarsi.
