Ipswich Town, newly promoted to the English Premier League, announced on Wednesday the signing of Morocco defender Issa Diop from Fulham.

The club, returning to the top flight after one season in the second tier, did not disclose the transfer fee. Diop's contract with Fulham was set to expire in 2027.

Ipswich Town said on its website that Diop has signed a contract until 2030.

Diop (29) joins the team after his outstanding performance with Morocco in the World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where he helped the team reach the quarter-finals.

He scored the equalizer in the final moments against the Netherlands in the Round of 16 match before his country won on penalties.

Diop, who represented France at various youth levels, has played nine matches for Morocco, including five in the 2026 World Cup before coach Mohamed Wahbi's team ended their campaign in the quarter-finals with a loss to France.

Ipswich will be the third English club Diop has played for, after joining West Ham United in 2018 from Toulouse. He made 96 appearances for Fulham in all competitions.

Ipswich Town will begin their Premier League campaign against Sunderland on August 22.
