"Mundo": Al-Hilal striker Nunez sets sights on move to Barcelona

Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez surprised many football fans by returning again to Al-Hilal after the end of the rest he received following his participation with his country's national team in the World Cup, amid ongoing negotiations for months to terminate his contract with Al-Hilal.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that Nunez (26 years old) is currently training with the Saudi club, although his future with the team is undecided.

It added that the Uruguayan striker and his representatives are closely monitoring the moves of Barcelona, which is looking to sign a new striker this summer, amid uncertainty surrounding the future of its player Ferran Torres, who is being monitored by Paris Saint-Germain.

The Catalan newspaper indicated that Barcelona's priority is to sign Julian Alvarez, although completing the deal remains very difficult due to Atletico Madrid's excessive financial demands.

It pointed out that the Uruguayan striker joined Al-Hilal's camp in Austria in preparation for the new season and remains a suitable option for Barcelona officials due to his low price.

Nunez joined Al-Hilal's camp last Friday amid uncertainty over his position, whether in Saudi Arabia due to foreign player regulations that have prevented him from playing in the Saudi Professional League since January, limiting his appearances to AFC Champions League matches, or in Europe, where a number of clubs have expressed interest in signing him.

Uncertainty surrounds Nunez's future with Al-Hilal amid the retention of coach Simone Inzaghi, who preferred Karim Benzema over the Uruguay national team striker.

Nunez has not played any official match in an Al-Hilal shirt since February 16 due to the limitation on foreign player participation in domestic league and cup competitions, as he was excluded after the signing of Benzema.
