(CNN)-- The 2026 World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, saw a number of records broken.

The increase in the number of matches to 104 opened the door wide for breaking records that had been held by certain players and coaches for many years.

Oldest coach

Dutchman Dick Advocaat became the oldest manager to appear in the World Cup at 78 years and 271 days, when he led Curaçao against Ivory Coast.

Most wins by a coach

Didier Deschamps became the coach with the most wins, with 17 victories.

Two players from the same team scoring 6 or more goals

Frenchmen Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé each scored 6 or more goals, as did Englishmen Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham.

Youngest substitute to score two goals

Swiss player Johan Manzambi became the youngest substitute to score a brace, at the age of 20 years and 247 days.

Most wins by a player

Argentine Lionel Messi became the player with the most wins, in 23 matches.

Top scorer

Frenchman Kylian Mbappé became the tournament's top scorer with 22 goals, surpassing Argentine Lionel Messi by a single goal.

Argentine Lionel Messi scored in 9 consecutive matches, by netting in his first match of the 2026 edition.

Best playmaker

Frenchman Michael Olise became the first player to provide 7 assists in a single edition.

First player to score in 6 editions

Ronaldo managed to score in 6 editions of the tournament, specifically in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026.

Most clean sheets by a goalkeeper in a single edition

Unai Simón became the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in 7 matches in a single edition.
