American jazz musician Plas Johnson, who performed the famous theme music for the 'Pink Panther' series, died at age 94, according to US media on Wednesday. Johnson, the son of a professional saxophonist, initially specialized in jump blues, R&B, and blues before becoming a renowned musician on stage and in studios. He accompanied legends such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and Barbra Streisand. The famous theme, composed by Henry Mancini, initially relied on the distinctive saxophone solo by Plas Johnson, before other brass instruments joined in. Mancini composed this piece specifically for Johnson, as his unique style earned him a reputation as a member of 'The Wrecking Crew', a famous group of elite studio musicians in Los Angeles.
