Egypt has entered the competition to host the next edition of the Spanish Super Cup, after opening channels of communication with the Spanish Football Federation to discuss the possibility of holding the tournament in the capital Cairo, as uncertainty continues over the host country.

The Spanish Football Federation is looking for a new venue for the tournament, after it was unable to be held in Saudi Arabia this season due to its coincidence with the Asian Cup, which takes place from January 7 to February 5, prompting federation officials to consider a number of offers from different countries.

Although Qatar was considered the closest option to host the tournament due to the schedule crisis, recent security developments in the Middle East, following the military escalation between the United States and the Zionist entity on one hand, and Iran on the other, have reopened the discussion on the venue of the tournament.

Despite matches continuing normally in Qatar, the Spanish Federation is studying other alternatives in light of the potential risks associated with the regional situation.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Egyptian Football Federation contacted its Spanish counterpart to propose hosting the tournament in Cairo, citing the great popularity of Spanish football in Egypt, which is seen as an important factor to ensure fan and organizational success.

The race is not limited to Egypt alone, as the Spanish Federation has received other offers from China, the United States and Mexico (two of the three countries that hosted the 2026 World Cup), along with other countries that have expressed interest in hosting the event.

The report noted that relations between the Egyptian and Spanish federations have seen notable progress in recent months, after both sides managed to overcome the crisis that accompanied the cancellation of the 'Finalissima' match last March, and reached an agreement to hold the friendly match hosted by the Cornellà stadium.

The Egyptian Federation also appreciated the position of its Spanish counterpart after condemning the offensive chants sung by some fans during that match, which included the phrase: 'Muslim is he who does not jump'.

The Spanish Super Cup is scheduled to take place during the first week of February, with the two semi-final matches set: Barcelona faces Atlético Madrid, while Real Madrid confronts Real Sociedad.
