Rogers officially joins Chelsea.

Morgan Rogers has joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for an estimated £117 million ($156.5 million), signing a seven-year contract, making it the most expensive transfer in the club's history.

The British news agency PA Media reported that the agreement for the transfer of the 23-year-old player was reached last Saturday, with Chelsea beating Arsenal, who were in advanced negotiations with Rogers and were considered the frontrunners to sign him.

Reports said that the opportunity to work under Spaniard Xabi Alonso, Chelsea's new head coach, played a decisive role in convincing Rogers to move to Stamford Bridge, after recently returning from participating with the England national team in the World Cup, where he helped them finish third.

Rogers started the match that England lost to Argentina 1-2 in the semi-final, before helping in the thrilling 6-4 victory over France in the third-place match.

He told the club's official website: 'I am very excited. For me, Chelsea is the biggest club in London, and it is a team I have admired since I was a child.'

He added, 'I am very excited about the project with the new coach, the players in the team, and the direction the club is going. That is why I am here, and I cannot wait to start.'

Rogers is known for his ability to play in multiple attacking positions, which aligns with Chelsea's need to bolster their forward options.

The player's career has seen remarkable development since moving to Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024, as he helped lead the team to a top-four finish last season and qualification for the Europa League.

Rogers will leave Aston Villa after scoring 31 goals in 125 appearances for the team under coach Unai Emery.
