Chelsea has finalized the signing of an Argentine national team player during the current summer transfer window, and is close to making an official announcement.

The 2026 World Cup concluded with Spain defeating Argentina 1-0, earning 'La Roja' their second star in history.

Valentín Barco, who was called up to the Argentine national team, rarely got a chance to play during the tournament.

The versatile Strasbourg player, capable of playing in midfield and left-back, was a substitute and had to wait on the bench... He only played 19 minutes against Jordan (3-1) in the third group stage match.

The 21-year-old player, who had a standout season with Strasbourg (3 goals and 9 assists in 43 matches), will not return to Ligue 1.

According to Foot Mercato, the English club, owned by the BlueCo group which also owns Strasbourg, is signing a fifth player from the French club, following the loan moves of Maik Benders, Aaron Anselmino, David Datro Fofana, and striker Emmanuel Emega.

Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert, confirmed via his X account that the deal is done, adding that the announcement will come soon.

In fact, the Italian journalist explained that all documents have been signed for Valentín Barco's transfer to Chelsea, following a verbal agreement reached last May.

Thus, Xabi Alonso will be able to count on another new signing for the new season.
