The President of the Norwegian Football Federation, Lise Klaveness, announced on Thursday that she will file an official complaint with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) over the case of American striker Folarin Balogun.

Klaveness revealed that US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the recent World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, demanding that he cancel the suspension imposed on Balogun after he received a red card in one of the matches.

Klaveness explained that FIFA had indeed decided to lift the suspension on the player, while Infantino denied any connection between the decision and Trump's call. Although most analysts agreed that the expulsion decision was harsh, the controversy surrounding the incident dominated the second half of the tournament.

In an interview with the British newspaper The Times, Klaveness harshly criticized FIFA officials, accusing them of trying to cover up the issue, and called on Infantino to admit that the decision to lift Balogun's suspension was wrong.

Klaveness is known for her frequent critical stances against FIFA and its President Infantino, who enjoys widespread popularity outside Europe, especially after his decision to expand the men's World Cup to 48 teams, which enhances his chances of winning a new presidential term next year to lead the global governing body of football.
