Tuchel: Reaching the semi-finals is amazing but I am not happy with the performance
Thomas Tuchel, England manager, admitted on Saturday that his team was lucky after narrowly overcoming Norway 2-1 after extra time to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup being held in North America.
The German coach aims to correct the team's course ahead of the anticipated semi-final clash.
An angry Tuchel was not in the mood to celebrate after Jude Bellingham's goal secured the second comeback win for the 'Three Lions' in a tense match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
In immediate comments from the pitch after the victory, the German coach said: 'We made things very, very difficult for ourselves today.'
He added: 'The result is great. Reaching the semi-finals is amazing, but I am not happy with the performance.'
He continued: 'The commitment is there, but our way of playing made things very difficult for us: our style of play, how we played, chaotic, too cautious, not fast enough, and not enough. We were lucky today.'
England await in the semi-finals the winner of the match between Argentina and Switzerland, in Atlanta on Wednesday, as they seek their first World Cup final appearance in 60 years, when they won their only title on home soil.
However, Tuchel stressed that his team needs to improve if they want to progress further in the tournament, and said: 'We need to improve. Now is the time to celebrate and live in the moment. We have three days,' referring to the semi-final match next Wednesday.
Tuchel is focusing on addressing the chaotic and slow performance, which could be crucial against a strong opponent. England remain candidates to reach their first final since 1966, but the inconsistent performance raises questions about their readiness for the title.
