Facebook, the American social media platform, returned to normal operation on Sunday after a technical glitch in several countries.

Earlier on Sunday, users in various parts of the world were unable to access their accounts.

When trying to open the account, a message appeared saying: 'Account temporarily unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue.'

The message continued: 'We expect to resolve this issue soon. Please try again in a few minutes.'

According to data from the digital outage monitoring platform 'Downdetector', users in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Arab countries including Egypt and Saudi Arabia reported an outage on the platform owned by American company 'Meta'.

No information was immediately available about the nature of the technical glitch that caused the Facebook outage.
