Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Meta, experienced a technical glitch that prevented some users from accessing their accounts in several countries. Downdetector, a website that monitors online service outages, reported that the glitch began around 3:25 AM Eastern Time, with thousands of reports of access problems to the two platforms. Intermittent outages were also reported in some Asian countries. Users reported being unable to log in, load pages and posts, as well as issues with uploading photos and sending messages, while the Facebook app on smartphones continued to work without being significantly affected by the glitch. The company has not yet issued a statement explaining the cause or scope of the issue.
