With the launch of Huawei's Mate phones in 2026 approaching, new leaks suggest it may adopt the same zoom camera featured in the previous Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design edition.

According to leaker DigitalChatStation, the engineering version of the Mate 90 Pro Max includes a large, familiar zoom camera from the previous generation.

In contrast, Huawei is currently testing a new OmniVision sensor named OV52A with 200 megapixels, offering up to 3x optical zoom through a periscope lens.

The OV52A sensor features a large size (1/1.28 inches), allowing higher light absorption for clearer night photos with finer detail, along with high sharpness across all aspects of images, smart cropping support, and telephoto-macro shooting features.

If Huawei adopts this new technology in the Mate 90 Pro Max, the phone will achieve a significant leap in photography level according to the leaker, although the company has not yet confirmed adopting this final camera solution.

For comparison, the Mate 80 RS Ultimate was equipped with a dual 50-megapixel rear telephoto camera system:

The first with an RYYB lens with f/2.1 aperture and equivalent focal length of 91mm (4x optical zoom), supporting autofocus, optical image stabilization, and macro shooting.

The second with an RYYB filter, f/3.2 aperture, and equivalent focal length of 140mm (6.2x optical zoom), also supporting OIS and PDAF.

The actual camera specifications of the Mate 90 Pro Max are expected to become clear as Huawei's official announcement approaches.
