WhatsApp has launched a new feature to enhance account protection by replacing the six-digit two-factor verification code with a password containing letters and numbers, providing a higher level of security when logging in.

Its length ranges between 6 and 20 characters.

According to the specialized site WABetaInfo, the platform explained that the feature is still under development and will allow users to create a password between 6 and 20 characters long, containing at least one letter and one number, with the ability to modify or delete it later from the app settings.

It added that the password will be required after entering the verification code sent via text messages when logging in, and it will work alongside two-step verification if enabled, as an additional security layer that prevents account takeover even if the verification code is obtained.

It also noted that WhatsApp has not set an official date for launching the feature to all users, as it is still being tested in beta versions, and is expected to be rolled out in a future update after development and testing phases are complete.
