Jeddah, Muharram 28, 1448 AH, corresponding to July 13, 2026, SPA. The 'Red Sea Pioneers' team from King Abdulaziz University achieved seventh place globally in the World Underwater Robotics Championship finals, in the PIONEER category, after scoring 374.67 points in the competitions hosted by Memorial University in Canada, with the participation of 35 universities from various countries around the world. The achievement came after the team developed an advanced remotely operated robotic submarine, designed according to an integrated engineering system that allows it to carry out exploratory and engineering tasks in complex marine environments, through the integration of control and sensing systems, which enhanced its efficiency in maneuvering and operating under various conditions. The project took about two years to implement inside the Manufacturing Club of the Deanship of Student Affairs, which provided a stimulating environment for developing applied skills and innovation among university students, and contributed to turning the project into an engineering model capable of competing in one of the most prominent international specialized competitions in marine robotics. The evaluation criteria in the competition included, in addition to the submarine's field performance, engineering and practical presentations, technical documents, marketing presentation, collaborative mission, and safety and corporate responsibility standards, simulating the requirements of professional work in the marine and technical sectors.
