An Indian newspaper reported on Wednesday that the death toll from disasters and accidents caused by heavy rains in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir region has reached 26 since last weekend.

The New Indian Express newspaper, citing officials, said that the heavy rains the region has been experiencing since last weekend have resulted in 26 deaths, while 9 people are still missing.

Officials explained that the heavy rains have caused damage to buildings and roads, and river floods have submerged many residential areas.

For its part, the meteorological department warned of continued heavy rainfall in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir, alerting to the risk of flash floods and landslides in the next 24 to 48 hours.
