The National Center for Meteorology launched an 'Amateur' membership for weather and climate enthusiasts, attracting 690 applicants to benefit from training programs and meteorological tools, in a step aimed at regulating the hobby within an institutional framework.

The membership was granted during the second coordination meeting of weather and climate influencers and enthusiasts.

Through this step, the center seeks to enable amateurs to participate in awareness activities and initiatives and spread meteorological culture.

Community Interest

The initiative saw demand from various regions of the Kingdom, with 658 men and 32 women applying, reflecting the growing community interest and active participation under the center's official umbrella. The membership allows affiliates to attend workshops and lectures, and directly benefit from advanced meteorological services, including enabling them to view and use radars, maps, and accurate numerical models. The educational levels of applicants varied from PhD and master's holders to graduates of vocational institutes and intermediate school, and the interests of affiliates ranged from weather monitoring and forecasting to volunteer work to enhance climate culture. This membership aims to formalize partnership with enthusiasts and ensure the dissemination of reliable meteorological information through channels based on solid scientific foundations to build a society aware of weather and climate changes.
