Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that US President Donald Trump agreed to allow US airlines to operate direct flights to Beirut, following his meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House.

Salam said: "Many thanks to US President Donald Trump for allowing US airlines to operate direct flights to Beirut," affirming the Lebanese government's readiness to follow up on all necessary executive and technical procedures to implement the decision as quickly as possible.

He added that resuming direct flights represents "an important opportunity to enhance travel and communication between Lebanon and the United States, and to support the Lebanese economy."

According to a statement from the Lebanese presidency, Aoun and Trump discussed during their meeting files on security, the economy, strengthening US support for the Lebanese army, reconstruction, and encouraging US investments. The Lebanese president also stressed the need for a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and raised the importance of restoring direct air connectivity between Lebanon and the United States, before the two sides agreed to continue coordination to implement what was agreed upon in the security, defense, and economic fields.
