America announces destruction of monitoring tower on Iranian coast

The US military announced on Friday that it destroyed a naval monitoring tower on the Iranian coast.

US Central Command, the US military command responsible for the Middle East region, said in a post on platform X that the tower was part of a network for naval monitoring along the Iranian coast overlooking the Gulf of Oman.

Iranian media also reported an attack targeting a naval monitoring tower.

Central Command added that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used the tower for decades to track and target commercial vessels as they transited the Strait of Hormuz.

Central Command said: "Destroying the tower directly reduces the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's ability to coordinate attacks against crews of innocent civilian ships."

It added that the attack, which took place on Thursday, protects freedom of navigation for all ships, except those trying to breach the US naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports.

Iran announced casualties and infrastructure damage in various areas of the south of the country following the US attacks that were launched on the night of Thursday into Friday.
