Amid US Strikes.. Targeting a Second Ship in Strait of Hormuz
Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced on Sunday that it targeted a second ship in the Strait of Hormuz, as strikes with the United States renewed after it opened fire on a commercial vessel.
The Revolutionary Guards said in a statement carried by official media that it targeted 'a second ship that violated regulations in the Strait of Hormuz,' adding that it also bombed the Al Udeid US military base in Qatar and support and refueling platforms for US aircraft carriers in the port of Duqm in the Sultanate of Oman.
A British maritime authority revealed that local authorities rescued the crew of a ship that was targeted in an incident that occurred 9 nautical miles east of the Sultanate of Oman.
What happened?
The US military announced on Sunday that it launched strikes against Iran in response to an attack targeting a civilian ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the US military carried out a new round of strikes on Iran, after Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces attacked a container ship flying the Cypriot flag that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM stated in a statement, 'One of the civilian crew members is listed as missing, and the ship is unable to continue its voyage due to a fire on board and severe damage to the engine room.'
CENTCOM confirmed that the strikes were carried out on the orders of US President Donald Trump.
The US military's Central Command said it hit about 140 targets in these strikes, a much larger number than the previous two rounds, targeting missile and drone launch sites, ammunition depots, communications equipment, and other locations.

Strait of Hormuz
The strait has become the main point of contention in any further negotiations between Iran and the United States to reach a permanent end to the war that began on February 28 last year.
About one-fifth of the traded oil and natural gas passed through the strait before the war began.
Iran's grip on it during the war led to a global energy crisis, although oil prices have fallen sharply since their wartime peak of $120 per barrel.
