The League of Arab States affirmed that the Palestinian cause is passing through an extremely dangerous turning point amid the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the escalation of settlement and annexation policies in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Ambassador Dr. Fayed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Arab Occupied Territories Sector at the League, explained during the opening of the conference of supervisors for Palestinian affairs in the host Arab countries in Cairo that there are attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause and undermine the right of Palestinian refugees to return.

Mustafa pointed out that the issue of Palestinian refugees represents the core of the Palestinian cause, stressing that the right of return is an inalienable right not subject to statute of limitations, and reiterating the Arab League's rejection of any attempts to terminate the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) or reduce its role.

He added that the Arab League calls for strengthening Arab and international support for refugees and host Arab countries, stressing the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
