Hassan Qashqavi, spokesperson for the National Security Committee of the Iranian parliament, denied the validity of statements by US President Donald Trump in which he claimed that Tehran 'desperately seeks' to negotiate with Washington.

Qashqavi said on Wednesday, in a post on the US company X platform, that Trump's statements 'do not reflect the truth.'

He added: 'It seems Trump must find better ways to get out of the swamp he is stuck in, as repeated lies no longer provide even short-term relief to the markets.'

Earlier, Trump claimed that Iran wants to negotiate with the United States and that it 'desperately seeks' to do so.

He said: 'They desperately want to negotiate with us, but we do not intend to talk to them until they are ready for serious negotiations.'

On February 28, the United States and Israel started a war on Iran, which left more than 3,000 dead, according to Tehran, which responded with attacks that killed Americans and Israelis.

Iran launched attacks on 'American bases and interests' in regional countries, but some of them resulted in civilian casualties and damaged civilian facilities.

Despite the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran on June 18 that stipulated a cessation of fighting, military confrontations resumed after Trump announced on July 8 the end of the ceasefire.

Trump's announcement came after Iran targeted three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, as Tehran insists on imposing a mechanism to regulate the passage of ships through the waterway overlooking its coasts, while Washington demands 'guaranteeing freedom of navigation in the strait.'
