An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale struck British Columbia in western Canada.

The U.S. Geological Survey said in a statement that the earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers, and 208 kilometers west of the town of Port McNeill.

There were no reports of casualties or material damage from the earthquake, and no tsunami warning was issued. Canada's west coast is located in a geologically known area called the 'Ring of Fire' or 'Pacific Ring of Fire', where the Pacific Plate collides with smaller tectonic plates, causing significant seismic and volcanic activity.
