Forest Fire in Germany's Müritz National Park Brought Under Control After Days of Efforts
Firefighting teams have managed to bring under control a forest fire that broke out in the Müritz National Park in northeastern Germany, following intensive efforts that began after the fire was reported last Monday. The authorities employed a strategy of creating water barriers to moisten the soil and trees in unaffected areas, forming a buffer zone that prevented the spread of flames. A spokesperson for the Mecklenburg Lake District said the fire has consumed an area estimated at 388 hectares, and about 370 firefighters were involved in extinguishing it, noting that the lack of rain and westerly winds contributed to the spread of the fire. They added that smoke has begun to recede, indicating a decrease in fire activity; nevertheless, authorities have urged tourists to avoid approaching the area. It is reported that the fire previously led to the evacuation of several villages on multiple occasions.
