Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan intends to visit Qatar on Sunday to hold talks on bilateral relations and current regional developments.

According to information obtained by Anadolu from sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Fidan is expected to affirm Turkey's solidarity and strong support for Qatar in the face of the Iranian attacks it has suffered, and to discuss the growing relations between the two countries in various fields on the basis of strategic partnership.

The two sides are expected to review preparations for the 12th meeting of the Turkey-Qatar Supreme Strategic Committee, scheduled to be held in Turkey this year under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Fidan is also expected to emphasize that recent regional developments have once again highlighted the strategic importance of military and defense cooperation between the two countries, in addition to the need to address regional issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

The sources stated that Fidan is also expected to stress the importance of enhancing cooperation in the field of regional connectivity, which is increasingly important for economic stability and energy security.

Fidan is expected to affirm that permanently ending tension in the Gulf and preventing any new escalation is an urgent priority, and to exchange views with Qatari officials on diplomatic efforts and ongoing mediation endeavors in this regard.

For days, the United States has been launching successive waves of strikes on sites inside Iran, while Tehran has been carrying out attacks on what it says are American ships, facilities, and military bases in several countries in the region.

Fidan last visited Qatar on May 11-12 last year.

Turkish-Qatari relations, which have risen to the level of strategic partnership since 2014, continue to develop through mutual visits and agreements signed between the two sides.

The Turkey-Qatar Supreme Strategic Committee is the highest institutional framework for bilateral relations, and has been held annually since 2015, alternating between the two countries, chaired by Erdogan and the Qatari Emir, with the last one held in Doha on October 22, 2025.

The volume of trade between the two countries reached $1.1 billion during 2025, while the two sides aim to increase it to $5 billion in the next stage.

The trade and economic partnership agreement between the two countries entered into force on August 1, 2025.
