Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday called for full compliance with the ceasefire commitments stipulated in the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, warning against any steps that could fuel escalation in the region.

This came during a phone call received by Ishaq Dar from Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, during which the two sides discussed the latest regional developments amid rising tensions.

The Kuwaiti foreign minister expressed his country's deep concern over the continued attacks targeting Kuwaiti territory, calling on all parties to exercise utmost restraint and work towards full implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad. In response, Ishaq Dar emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation, stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and maintaining that preserving regional peace and security must remain a top priority.

Iran Suspends Its Commitments Under Islamabad Memorandum

In a notable development, Iran announced on Saturday the suspension of all its obligations under the memorandum of understanding with the United States, accusing Washington of violating its commitments and resorting to what it described as 'aggressive acts.' Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi explained that his country was engaged in negotiations with Washington when the latter carried out military actions that he said constitute a direct violation of the agreed commitments.

The Iranian decision deals a severe blow to the understandings reached through Pakistani mediation, which aimed to halt military operations and create conditions for a broader settlement between Washington and Tehran. The memorandum had been linked to efforts to stabilize the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation, but differences over the interpretation of commitments and implementation mechanisms had threatened the agreement since its conclusion. Tehran's announcement came following an expansion of US strikes inside Iran and mutual attacks between the two sides, leading to a sharp decline in the chances of resuming political contacts.

Kuwait Accuses Iran of 'Systematic Aggressive Behavior'

Kuwait accused Iran of pursuing 'systematic aggressive behavior' targeting civilian facilities and critical infrastructure, following missile and drone attacks on oil installations, power and water stations, as well as military and security sites, resulting in injuries, material losses, and fires.

In the same context, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Al-Budaiwi described the Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan as 'war crimes,' affirming that they represent a blatant violation of international law that requires international accountability and prosecution.
