Pakistan reaffirms commitment to bringing US, Iran back to negotiating table despite escalation
(CNN)-- Pakistan has expressed its commitment to working on bringing the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table amid the recent escalation.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that it is 'actively engaged in intensive contacts with actors in the region to support efforts aimed at de-escalation, dialogue, and a peaceful resolution of the situation.'
As a key mediator in the war, Pakistan also reiterated its call on 'all parties to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from any actions that could further undermine regional peace and stability,' saying it 'firmly believes that there is no alternative to sustained communication, dialogue, and diplomacy.'
The Foreign Ministry statement said Pakistan 'will continue to encourage all parties to end the violence' and resume talks.
The ministry also noted that countries of the 'Global South' bear the brunt of the war. Unlike wealthy nations that have the reserves and infrastructure necessary to absorb the fallout of a crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, import-dependent economies are more vulnerable to immediate and cascading shocks to supply chains.
