It is still hoped that the two warring parties in Iran will resume negotiations and respond to the efforts of Pakistani and Qatari mediators to end the fighting that daily destroys Iran's capabilities and kills an increasing number of its people. The opportunity remains to return to the memorandum of understanding signed in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, which lays the foundations for a peace that could be lasting and just.

In fact, the continuation of the war increases the risks of destabilizing the entire Middle East at a time when the world needs a smooth flow of energy supplies, fertilizers necessary for agriculture, and components of vital medicines across the globe. Moreover, the continued bombing of Arab Gulf states by Iran defies common sense, the principle of good neighborliness, and the duty of peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the region. The flimsy justifications for targeting Gulf and Arab states cannot be accepted under any circumstances; these states have repeatedly affirmed that their territories are not used as a launchpad to strike Iran.

Stubbornness and arrogance on the part of Tehran are not in its interest; they have led to the return of the US-imposed blockade on its ports. They have also led to the resumption of US strikes targeting its naval and air bases, as well as its civilian infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and industrial facilities. These will undoubtedly complicate reconstruction efforts after the guns fall silent and the raids stop.

Moreover, these complications will harm the friendly relations between Iran and a number of regional countries eager to mediate its problems, such as sisterly Oman, whose territorial waters Iran has been targeting without sufficient justification, attempting to leap over geography, shared history, and neighborly ties.

The time has come for Tehran to respond to the voice of wisdom and reason by distancing itself from policies of hegemony and the mobilization of its proxy militias to spread sabotage and terrorism across the region and the world. In an atmosphere filled with peace and respect for others, Iran can solve all its problems. However, its adherence to its military nuclear program and ideological hegemony will bring it nothing but enmity with the major powers, which care about the safety of supply chains, the smooth flow of imports and exports, and the stability of the region's energy- and mineral-rich countries.

So, will Iran listen to the voice of reason and prioritize wisdom over a hegemony that is impossible to achieve through force?
