Supporters of the youth-led Cockroach movement in India said Tuesday they will continue their protests in New Delhi and refuse to leave their protest site, a day after police used tear gas and batons to disperse thousands of demonstrators attempting to march to parliament.

Hundreds of protesters are sitting in at Jantar Mantar, a designated protest area, under heavy security presence, insisting they will not leave until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns over what they call the failure of India's examination system.

Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach party, established just two months ago, said: 'We will continue our protest.'

The movement, which emerged in May, enjoys support from millions on social media.

Ashutosh Ranka, a movement official, said in a message posted on social media: 'We will not stop. Pradhan must be removed.'

Police reported at least 178 people injured in clashes between protesters and security forces in New Delhi on Monday.

More than 118 security personnel were also injured in clashes with protesters.
