Russian President Vladimir Putin met North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui on Sunday and expressed 'gratitude' for the 'support' provided in the attack on Ukraine, according to a video released by the Kremlin.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had announced on Saturday that Choe Son Hui would visit the country at the invitation of her counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

Putin said: 'I would like to once again express my gratitude for the support shown for the special military operation we are conducting,' referring to the war in Ukraine.

He added: 'We will never forget... the feats' of Korean soldiers who 'will be honored just like our fellow citizens,' also noting that he 'highly appreciates the mutual understanding that has been established' with leader Kim Jong Un.

Relations between Pyongyang and Moscow have been increasingly close since 2022 and the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

North Korea has sent ground troops and weapons systems to Russia's Kursk region to support the Russian war effort.

In return, the isolated country has received financial, food, and fuel aid, as well as military technology from Moscow, according to experts.

In late April, senior Russian officials visited Pyongyang, and Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his support for Russia, vowing to help Moscow achieve victory in its 'holy war,' according to his words.
