Qatar Summons Iranian Deputy Ambassador, Hands Over Protest Note Over Targeting of Its Vessel 'Al Rakeyyat'

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian deputy ambassador to Doha, Mr. Mohsen Mohammadi Qane'i, to the ministry's headquarters and handed him an official protest note regarding the targeting of the Qatari tanker 'Al Rakeyyat' while it was passing near the Strait of Hormuz.

In the note, Qatar expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of this attack, stressing that it constitutes a serious violation of international navigation safety, a direct threat to global energy supply security, and a clear breach of the rules of international law.

The Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahim bin Yousef Fakhro, handed the note to the Iranian deputy ambassador during the summons session.

The note included Qatar's categorical rejection of this attack and its infringement on the security of international navigation and regional stability, while demanding the Islamic Republic of Iran take a number of urgent measures, most notably:

- Immediate cessation of any practices that affect the security of the region and refraining from endangering international navigation and energy supplies.

- Providing urgent clarifications regarding the targeting, and taking immediate measures to prevent its recurrence.

- Full compliance with relevant rules of international law.

Qatar affirmed its full right to take whatever action it deems appropriate under international law to protect its interests and assets.
