Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Sunday that Russia struck his country with the largest number of ballistic missiles in a single attack since the start of its full-scale war.

Sybiha wrote on X: "Russia launched the largest number of ballistic missiles since the start of the war – about 40 – in a brutal terrorist attack on the Ukrainian capital, killing and injuring people."

He added: "We urge appropriate and strong responses. We need massive pressure on Moscow to end this terror."

18 out of 41 missiles shot down

For its part, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Sunday that air defenses shot down 18 out of 41 missiles launched by Russia overnight.

It added that 23 missiles and 10 drones hit 20 sites during the attack, which mainly targeted the capital Kyiv, and that 108 Russian drones out of 125 were shot down.

Earlier, Ukrainian officials said Russian missiles targeted the Ukrainian capital and its surrounding area early on Sunday, killing at least one person and wounding 13, and sparking fires across the city.

For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a large-scale overnight strike on infrastructure, energy, ports, military industry sites, drone assembly and manufacturing centers, and logistics of Ukrainian forces.

It added: "Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on infrastructure in the Yuzhny port in Odesa region, used for delivering and storing military cargo and fuel."

It pointed out that during the night strikes, the 'Radionics' plant in Kyiv for assembling and manufacturing electronic components was hit. The plant produces guidance systems for 'Flamingo' cruise missiles, FP-7 and FP-9 operational-tactical missiles, Neptune guided missiles, and a counterpart of S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles and rockets, as well as the 'Spetsoboronmash' 'Artem' rocket and space plant for manufacturing missile control systems.
