Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Sunday that Russia struck his country with the largest number of ballistic missiles in a single attack since the start of its full-scale war.

Sybiha wrote on X: 'Russia launched the largest number of ballistic missiles since the outbreak of war - about 40 - in a brutal terrorist attack on the Ukrainian capital, resulting in deaths and injuries.'

He added: 'We urge appropriate and strong responses. We need immense pressure on Moscow to end this terror.'

18 missiles shot down out of 41

For its part, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Sunday that air defenses shot down 18 out of 41 missiles launched by Russia overnight.

It added that 23 missiles and 10 drones hit 20 sites during the attack, which primarily targeted the capital Kyiv, and that 108 Russian drones out of 125 were shot down.

Earlier, Ukrainian officials said Russian missiles targeted the capital and surrounding area early Sunday, killing at least one person and wounding 13, sparking fires across the city.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a large-scale overnight strike on infrastructure, energy, port, military-industrial, drone assembly and manufacturing centers, and logistics facilities of Ukrainian forces.

It added that 'Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on infrastructure at the Yuzhny port in Odesa region, used for delivering and storing military cargo and fuel.'

It noted that during the overnight strikes, the 'Radiionix' plant in Kyiv for assembly and manufacturing of electronic components was hit, which produces guidance systems for 'Flamingo' cruise missiles, FP-7 and FP-9 operational-tactical missiles, Neptune guided missiles, and a counterpart to S-300 guided anti-aircraft and anti-missile missiles, as well as the 'Spetsoboronmash' 'Artem' rocket and space plant for manufacturing missile control systems.
