Trump: Iran requested a meeting

U.S. President Donald Trump said that the Iranians want a settlement and we will see if we can achieve that with them, according to statements to Reuters.

Trump added that the Iranians want to hold a meeting, but he reiterated that they "will be defeated very soon."

In response to reporters on Wednesday who asked whether Iran has a deadline before the United States begins launching attacks on Iranian bridges, Trump said he does not prefer to set deadlines.

Trump said, "I don't like setting deadlines, but they know very well, they know the story... it is better for them to behave well."

Reuters quoted three U.S. officials as saying that the latest wave of U.S. strikes on Iran, which aim to open the Strait of Hormuz, also target Iranian military capabilities that the United States seeks to destroy before carrying out more complex operations against Iran.

The officials, who requested anonymity to discuss military matters, added that these strikes effectively enhance the military options available to President Trump, who has kept the world guessing about his next steps after notifying Congress earlier this week of a formal resumption of the conflict with Iran.
