A court in Istanbul has decided to detain Turkish artist Oğuzhan Oğur in a case related to fraud and theft of millions of dollars in charitable donations.

The court has detained Oğur, known in cinema, music, and social media, along with 9 other defendants who joined 18 suspects detained days earlier for their connection to the controversial charity 'Friends' association.

Oğur's name (42 years old) has been added to the case, joining well-known Turkish singer Haluk Levent, who founded the 'Friends' association that raised millions of dollars in 2023 to build homes and assist victims of the February 6 earthquake that year, which left over 55,000 dead.

Fraud and Gambling

The various charges in the case involve fraud, money laundering, and gambling, and investigations with Levent and Oğur are still in their early stages, with no final convictions issued yet, while Oğur denies the accusations against him.

Oğuzhan Oğur is considered one of the most prominent content creators in Turkey, combining singing, directing, screenwriting, hosting, and digital production.

Oğur has an impressive artistic record that includes a feature film he wrote and directed in 2011, as well as several music albums and singles, including his song with artist Murat Dalkılıç, 'Mağlubiyet' or 'Defeat.'

However, Oğur's true fame came with his transition to digital platforms after he established the BaBaLa TV channel on YouTube, which became one of the most-watched talk platforms in Turkey.
