The death toll in Venezuela rose to 5,069 due to the double earthquake that struck the country on June 24.
This was according to Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez, in a post he published on the American platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) on Friday evening, regarding the latest developments of the disaster that hit the country.
Rodríguez explained that the death toll rose to 5,069, while the number of injured reached 16,740.
The previous earthquake toll announced by Venezuelan authorities on Thursday evening was 4,930.
On June 24, a double earthquake struck Venezuela, the first with a magnitude of 7.2 and the second with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale.
The United Nations Development Programme announced on June 26 that the cost of direct physical damage is estimated at about 6.7 billion dollars.
Search and rescue operations continue in the country, amid fears that the death and injury tolls will keep rising.
