An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale struck the province of British Columbia in western Canada.
The U.S. Geological Survey stated, in a statement, that the earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers, and 208 kilometers west of the town of "Port McNeill".

No reports of casualties or material damage have been received due to the earthquake, nor was a tsunami warning issued. The western coast of Canada lies within a geologically known area called the "Ring of Fire" or "Fire Belt zone", where Pacific plates collide with smaller tectonic plates, causing significant earthquake and volcanic activity.
