The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced on Thursday the loss of 1,400 megawatts of generating capacity of the national electricity system after receiving a notice of gas supply stoppage from the DANA field in the Kurdistan Region due to the security conditions the region witnessed.

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity stated in a press statement today that all necessary technical and operational measures have been taken, and an emergency plan has been prepared to manage the electrical system, by redistributing loads and utilizing all available generating units, in order to reduce the impact of the expected production deficit and maintain the stability of the electrical system.

The ministry called on citizens to cooperate in rationalizing electricity consumption during this period, according to the German news agency DPA.

The ministry indicated that it 'continues coordination with relevant authorities to follow up on developments, to ensure the return of generating units to work at their normal capacity.'

Earlier today, Dana Gas company announced the closure of the Khor Mor field in Iraqi Kurdistan due to credible security threats.
