Kingdom and United States Sign Cooperation Agreement on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy

Riyadh and Washington have concluded a bilateral cooperation agreement concerning the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, consistent with the existing strategic partnership.

This step comes within the context of ongoing efforts to develop the energy sector and diversify technology sources to serve common interests.

The government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the government of the United States of America have signed the cooperation agreement on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy between the two countries, within the framework of the strategic partnership that unites the two friendly nations. According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, this comes as a completion of what was announced during the visit of Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the United States last November, regarding the completion of negotiations related to cooperation between the two countries in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to enhance bilateral cooperation in energy and advanced technologies. The agreement, signed by Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, support the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and technologies, thereby contributing to the development of joint cooperation according to the highest international standards related to nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation, reflecting the shared vision of the two countries towards expanding cooperation in energy and future technologies and supporting sustainable development. The agreement represents an extension of existing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, supporting efforts to diversify energy sources, develop advanced technologies, and enhance cooperation and investment opportunities to achieve common interests of the two friendly nations.
