Moscow, February 04 (QNA) - Russian scientists from Perm National Research Polytechnic University have developed hybrid molecules capable of automatically adopting their optimal shape inside the body, an innovation that could enhance the efficiency of targeted cancer therapies and reduce their side effects.
A report from the university stated that the scientists designed molecules that can self-fold to form a stable three-dimensional structure, allowing them to precisely bind to specific targets such as tumors or areas of inflammation and work more effectively compared to traditional methods.
The report explained that these molecular hybrids combine more than one therapeutic effect simultaneously; they can attack malignant tumors and reduce inflammation at the same time. Previous techniques did not allow the creation of a stable structure, which led to the molecule losing its effectiveness and inability to bind to the desired target.
The scientists used the analgesic substance 'antipyrine' as a basis to develop these compounds, resulting in molecules with both anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties. Estimates indicate that this approach could improve treatments for cancer and several chronic inflammatory diseases, including acute arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and Crohn's disease.
