The British Ministry of Defense revealed that Russian forces conducted a military exercise with live ammunition about 40 nautical miles off the coast of England.

A spokesman for the British Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday that a Russian warship conducted a live-fire training exercise in the English Channel on Monday off the city of Plymouth in southwest England.

According to the British Ministry of Defense, the Russian ship issued a warning to the British ship HMS Tyne, which was in the area, about its intention to conduct live-fire drills, and asked it to move to a safer distance.

The spokesman for the British Ministry of Defense explained that the Royal Navy monitored the training and continues to closely track the Russian ship's activity, and is 'on standby to protect the national security of the United Kingdom.'

The British newspaper The Guardian reported that the rare Russian training lasted about 30 minutes.

The maneuver took place as new Prime Minister Andy Burnham took office, amid rising tensions between Britain and Russia in the English Channel and northern European waters.
