King Abdulaziz University President Dr. Tarif bin Yousef Al-Aama honored the 'Red Sea Pioneers' team on the occasion of achieving seventh place globally in the finals of the Underwater Robotics Competition 'MATE ROV 2026', in the 'PIONEER' category, which was hosted by Memorial University in Canada with the participation of 35 universities from various countries. The honoring took place during a ceremony held in the university council hall in Jeddah.

The team scored 374.67 points in the official results of the competition, after developing an advanced robotic submarine designed according to an integrated engineering vision. This submarine enabled the team to carry out complex exploratory and engineering tasks underwater with high efficiency, through the integration of control systems, sensors, and execution tools, providing stability and precision in performance within difficult marine environments.

The project took two years of continuous work within the 'Manufacturing Club' of the Deanship of Student Affairs, which provided a stimulating scientific environment to nurture innovative ideas and hone the applied skills of university students from various disciplines, ultimately leading to the university's representation in one of the most prominent global competitions specialized in marine robotics.

Support and partnerships to enhance innovation

It is noteworthy that the project received support from King Abdulaziz University, the Scientific Endowment, and Johnson Controls Arabia, as part of a partnership aimed at empowering young national talents and supporting their innovative projects. This support aims to enhance the university's presence in international scientific forums and consolidate the Kingdom's position in the fields of innovation, engineering, and advanced technologies.
