(CNN) -- Iran's official news agency (IRNA) reported Monday that Iran launched new missile strikes from Lorestan province in western Iran towards 'enemy targets.'

This came after the United States carried out a new wave of strikes on Iran, and explosions were heard in various parts of the country.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency said Monday that the United States bombed several cities in the country.

Tasnim added that explosions were heard in the city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran, in Chabahar and Konarak on the Gulf of Oman, and in Bandar Mahshahr.

In a related context, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced that it received a report of a fire on a ship off the coast of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz.

The agency stated that the incident occurred eight nautical miles northwest of the town of Khasab, northern Oman. It added: 'The cause of the fire has not been verified yet.'

This was preceded by the announcement of the Kuwaiti army on Monday that the country was subjected to attacks by Iranian drones, indicating that air defenses were confronting them.

The Bahraini Ministry of Interior also announced the sounding of sirens and called on citizens and residents to head to the nearest safe place, amid ongoing escalation between the United States and Iran.

The Bahrain Defense Force announced on Sunday that it intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial attacks, confirming that all its 'weapons and units are at the highest level of readiness.'

The General Command of the Bahrain Defense Force said that the Kingdom's air defense systems 'confronted, intercepted, and destroyed a number of treacherous Iranian aerial attacks.'
