The Jordanian army said in a statement on Tuesday that its air defenses intercepted and shot down four missiles launched from Iran, with no casualties or material damage, as Tehran intensifies its attacks on Washington's allies in the region in response to US strikes on it.

The statement quoted a responsible military source in the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces saying that "air defense systems intercepted and shot down, early Tuesday, 4 missiles that entered Jordanian airspace coming from Iranian territory," noting that they "did not result in any casualties or material damage."

He explained that "the interception was carried out with high efficiency, within the operational procedures taken to protect the sovereignty of the Kingdom, its security, and the safety of its citizens." The source affirmed that "any attempt to violate the Kingdom's sovereignty or its airspace will be met with all firmness, within the established rules of engagement and as required by the national interest," stressing that "the armed forces will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to protect the homeland and defend its security and stability."

The Jordanian army had announced in a statement that four Iranian missiles fell early Monday on the Kingdom's territory without causing any casualties.

On Thursday, Jordan announced the interception of eight missiles launched from Iran, in an attack that Iran's Revolutionary Guards said was targeting a military base used by the United States.

Amman asserts that Jordan hosts no foreign bases, but limited forces from several countries are deployed in some Jordanian army bases under cooperation and training agreements.

The Jordanian army announced in early April that 281 missiles and drones from Iran had targeted it since the start of the war in the Middle East on February 28, confirming that 261 of them were intercepted. According to the authorities, those attacks resulted in about 30 injuries, all of whom have since left hospitals.
