How the US-Iran Conflict Escalated This Week?.. Details of Tehran's Attacks on Gulf and Arab States
(CNN)-- The United States continues to bomb Iran, while Tehran has resumed its attacks on America's Gulf allies. Last night saw the seventh consecutive round of US nightly strikes against Iran this week.
Below is a look at how the conflict has escalated over the past seven days:
Early Sunday (local time), Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps closed the Strait of Hormuz after firing a warning shot at a ship it said was trying to take an unauthorized route through the waterway. In response, the US military launched multiple rounds of strikes on Iran. Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan reported attacks incoming toward their territories as Iran retaliated.
In the early hours of Monday morning, the United States carried out another round of strikes on Iran, including two sites near the city of Ahvaz, known for its oil industry, as well as a water pumping station in Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran, according to official media. The Revolutionary Guard launched a new wave of missile and drone attacks toward US bases in the region, including in Bahrain and Kuwait.
The US military said early Tuesday morning that it struck targets across Iran for 5 hours, causing damage to a power station on Iran's Kish Island, according to Iranian official media. Iran launched waves of strikes toward Bahrain, and Jordan's official news agency said the country shot down 4 rockets launched from Iran. Kuwait's Defense Ministry announced that 4 Kuwaiti service members were injured in an Iranian attack targeting a Kuwaiti navy vessel. Iran's Revolutionary Guard also said it "hit and disabled" two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. That night, the United States launched strikes on Iran ahead of reimposing a blockade on the country's ports.
On Wednesday, the United States carried out multiple rounds of strikes on Iran, killing at least 7 Iranian military personnel, according to the Iranian military. Official media reported that a hospital in southwestern Iran was temporarily evacuated after a projectile from a US strike fell nearby. Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain also dealt with Iranian attacks.
An explosion was heard in Tehran in the early hours of Thursday morning local time, as official media reported attacks across Iran. The Jordanian and Kuwaiti militaries said they intercepted Iranian strikes. Later that evening, the United States launched more strikes, with reports of attacks across Iran.
In the early hours of Friday, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Qatar reported more Iranian attacks. Kuwait said Iran bombed a power and desalination plant. The United States launched fresh strikes against Iran, and Iranian official media reported targeting several bridges in the south of the country and a maritime observation tower. Iran claimed it targeted US forces in Syria, though the US military and Syrian officials denied this.
The United States carried out a seventh night of strikes (spanning Friday night into Saturday), targeting coastal areas near the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as internal transportation infrastructure, according to Iranian official media. The attacks damaged a desalination plant in the south, cutting off water to 20 villages, according to the deputy governor of Hormozgan province. Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia activated warning systems or intercepted Iranian attacks, and Kuwait said another power and water desalination plant was bombed.
