Local residents reported on Saturday that a Sudanese army Antonov aircraft dropped munitions on the area of Umm Quraifa in North Kordofan state, which emitted thick yellow smoke upon impact.

A circulating video showed testimonies from residents and elements of the Rapid Support Forces, confirming that the projectiles dropped by the plane caused thick yellow smoke to rise after hitting the ground, expressing suspicion that the munitions contained chemical weapons.

This development comes days after the US government announced the start of new punitive measures against the authority in Port Sudan, as part of the second phase of sanctions stipulated under the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control Act.

The decision followed Washington's official confirmation that the Sudanese army used chemical weapons in its ongoing war against the Rapid Support Forces, which erupted in April.
