The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday the death of a US soldier in northern Iraq on Saturday while he was dealing with an unexploded ordnance that had fallen earlier.

CENTCOM clarified that a US serviceman was killed in northern Iraq 'while performing his duties on July 18, during a controlled detonation operation of unexploded ordnance resulting from an Iranian one-way attack drone that had fallen earlier.'

It added: 'A second serviceman was injured and is still receiving medical treatment for a minor injury.'

CENTCOM also indicated that after announcing the death of two US soldiers and the loss of a third in Jordan following an Iranian attack that occurred on July 17, and after careful search, 'US military personnel found unidentified remains at the site earlier today (Sunday). An examination process is currently underway to verify the identity of the remains.'

CENTCOM noted that it is withholding any additional information, including the identities of the missing and deceased servicemen, 'out of respect for their families' privacy during the notification process.'
