The Syrian General Authority for Crossings and Customs announced on Tuesday the seizure of 226 bombs that were destined for Lebanese territory.

In a statement, the authority said that the Jdeidet Yabous Customs Department seized 226 RG-type bombs that were tightly hidden in secret compartments inside a vehicle heading to Lebanese territory.

Last Thursday, the Syrian authorities revealed details of foiling an attempt to smuggle a huge shipment of 'specialized weapons,' including long-range missiles, across the border with Iraq, which they said was prepared for smuggling to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

They said the operation came 'after spotting a vehicle parked within the border area under suspicious circumstances, where it was subjected to inspection,' leading to the seizure of a shipment that includes 'long-range missiles, guided anti-tank missiles, and drones.'

Preliminary investigations, according to the Ministry of Interior, showed that 'the shipment was prepared to cross through Syrian territory towards Lebanon for the benefit of the terrorist Hezbollah militia.'

It emphasized that 'border protection and preservation of national sovereignty are a priority that allows no leniency, and it will not allow the use of Syrian territory as a corridor or starting point for arms smuggling or any activities that threaten the security of the Syrian Arab Republic or neighboring countries.'

In June, US President Donald Trump said he spoke with Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara about confronting Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, the Syrian president said that the American talk about a Syrian role in Lebanon does not mean direct military intervention, but rather a positive role within the framework of Lebanese state institutions aimed at stopping the war and finding calm paths to a solution.

He explained that the Syrian approach to a solution in Lebanon was presented during contacts and discussions with the United States and a number of international parties, and focuses on the need to immediately halt military operations, address the effects of the war on Lebanon and Syria, along with exploring solutions that go beyond traditional frameworks that are no longer able to produce practical results.
